Fire Capt. Terry Seelig, spokesman for HFD, said the male hiker, who's in his 20s, was with three others on the trail in the late afternoon. The three hikers managed to find their way down the trail and reported their missing companion just before 1 a.m. on Wednesday.
Fire crews were able to make voice contact with the missing hiker and are currently canvassing the trail by foot. A helicopter will continue to search by air at first light on Wednesday morning.
