Original story:

Honolulu Fire Department rescue crews are searching for a missing hiker who got lost on the Sacred Falls trail on Tuesday.

Fire Capt. Terry Seelig, spokesman for HFD, said the male hiker, who's in his 20s, was with three others on the trail in the late afternoon. The three hikers managed to find their way down the trail and reported their missing companion just before 1 a.m. on Wednesday.

Fire crews were able to make voice contact with the missing hiker and are currently canvassing the trail by foot. A helicopter will continue to search by air at first light on Wednesday morning.

Sacred Falls State Park has been closed to the public since a fatal accident in 1999.
