Fire causes $115,000 in damage to Palolo home

Honolulu Fire officials are investigating the cause of a fire that caused $115,000 damage to a Palolo home on Saturday morning. 

Officials say the fire was reported shortly before 7 a.m. Saturday on Palolo Avenue.

The residential home includes separate apartments on the first and second floors. The first floor has two, one-bedroom apartments with three adult residents. The second floor of the house has a two-bedroom apartment with six adults, and four children residents. Five adults occupy an attached three-bedroom apartment. 

HFD arrived on scene at 7:03 a.m., seeing heavy smoke and flames showing from Unit A on the bottom floor. Officials say the fire then extended to the exterior of the second floor.

Officials reported the fire was under control at approximately 7:21 a.m. The fire was extinguished at 7:45 a.m. 

All occupants escaped from the structure with no injuries.

Officials say the damage is estimated at $100,000 to the structure and $15,000 to its contents.

The first floor obtained heavy damage to its structure and contents. The second floor had smoke and water damage, but no damage to its interior. Unit C, the attached apartment, obtained no damage.

Officials believe the fire started in the bottom floor unit. The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.
