Teen skateboarder critically injured in Salt Lake accident

SALT LAKE, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A 13-year-old boy is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries after getting hit by a car while skateboarding through a Salt Lake intersection on Thursday, Honolulu police said. 

The accident happened at 5:22 p.m. at the intersection of Salt Lake Blvd and Maluna Street. Police said the woman who was driving a 2000 Dodge may have had the green light when she hit the boy. The boy was taken to the Queen's Medical Center in critical condition. 

A witness said the victim is a student at Aliamanu Middle School and enjoys riding his skateboard and playing with his kendama.

Police closed Salt Lake Blvd in the eastbound direction from Pakini Street for about two hours to investigate.
