AJ McCarron confident on Pro Day in Tuscaloosa

TUSCALOOSA, AL (WBRC) -

While some athletes might get nervous when faced with hundreds of NFL scouts, coaches and upper management watching every move--in total silence--former Alabama quarterback, AJ McCarron made it clear he was not.

"This isn't pressure," said McCarron shaking his head. "This is easy. This is practice. I've been doing this since I was 3-years old."

And sure playing football for 17-years does add a level of confidence, but there's also reason to believe that his head coach, Nick Saban, had something to do with him perfecting how he handles those situations.

"I always use the term, 'Be where your feet are," Saban said. "Don't worry about what happened yesterday. Don't worry about what's going to happen in the future. do what you can do to effect what you're doing right now. I think the players that can do that can perform better at events like this."

There were some questions surrounding McCarron's arm strength headed into the draft, which he addressed.

"I needed to work on mechanics and I did that," McCarron said. "I had time to work on myself and my personal game. Master my craft. I felt like overall it was a good day."

Only time will tell. The first round of the NFL draft begins on May 8th.

    The MSU senior leads the SEC in several offensive categories, including batting average (.415), hits (85), RBI (73), home runs (20), doubles (28), slugging percentage (.873) and total bases (179). He is the first Mississippi State player to reach 20 home runs, 20 doubles, 70 RBI, and the first SEC hitter to do so since 2000.
