WAIPAHU, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Honolulu Fire Department is investigating a building fire at Lumi Place that broke out on Sunday night.
Firefighters arrived at the one-story home at about 8:55 p.m. and extinguished the fire at about 9:10 p.m. A fire inspector said the call was an electrical short, not a normal house fire.
American Red Cross volunteers helped evacuate a family of eight, ranging in age from 9 to 87 years old. No injuries were reported.
"There was smoke coming out from the bedroom," said Josephine Busano, a property owner. "So that's when I ran upstairs and told my grandson to get out and my Aunty to get out."
Details have not yet been released as HFD continues to investigate. But damage is estimated at $150,000.
