JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM (HawaiiNewsNow) -

An emotional sendoff for the crew of the USS O'Kane, for its deployment to the Western Pacific and Arabian Gulf.

The goodbyes are always the toughest for military families, divided by duty.

Navy wife Myrna Ramirez-Blackburn said, "Very sad because he's leaving again. It's never easy when they leave."

Loved ones lined the dock at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam.

Navy wife Sharon Dhami put their sacrifice in perspective, saying "The sacrifices all these sailors are making today needs to be remembered, and these family members as well. We lose out but they're protecting our country."

The mother of two girls will have to be a rock for her daughters. She says, "it's hard for my girls because he will miss so much during that time."

Serving spouses often miss milestones during their months away from home. From their baby's birth, to their first time sleeping through the night, first steps or even seeing their young boys become the "men of the house."

Jennifer Takenishi's father is being deployed and that's taking a toll on her young daughter. She told us, "She couldn't stop crying so she's gonna miss her pops."

Rick Williams,Commander of Surface Navy Group Middle Pacific added, "When everyone comes out here like they have it is very reassuring to know that they're backing us up to give us the kind of strength we need when we go forward."

Even if that means leaving the ones they love.

The Navy offers their extended ohana support during deployment. The Navy won't say when the O'Kane will return, but the families are already counting down to their homecoming.
