KAILUA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Update 3:40 a.m.:
The Board of Water Supply has completed repairs to the broken water main. Water service has been restored to all affected customers as of 1:30 a.m.
Both lanes of Kailua Road, between Aumoe Road and South Kainalu Drive, will remain closed on Friday. Crews will be working throughout the day to backfill the trench and repave the roadway.
The Board of Water Supply (BWS) is responding to a 10-inch water main break at 197 Kailua Road. A repair crew is en route and will soon begin excavation work to determine the extent of the repair.
Approximately 40 customers on Kailua Road between Aumoe Road and Wanaao Road are without service at this time. A water wagon will be positioned in the area to provide customers with an alternate water source.
Both lanes on Kailua Road between Aumoe Road and South Kainalu Drive are closed. Motorists are advised to avoid the area or to use an alternate travel route. Repair work is expected to continue overnight. This 10-inch water main was originally installed in 1944.
