PEAHI, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) -

It was a frightening moment Sunday when a large wave capsized a 22-foot boat at the surf break known as Jaws.

Making matters worse, the boat had eight people onboard when the wave hit.

"I dove to the floor of the boat and locked my arms underneath the rail and by the motor because I knew the propellers were moving," said Ballistic TV producer Paul "Grover" Cleveland. "I held myself in (the boat) until I felt the boat go completely upside down and capsize.

Cleveland says the foam surge from the wave broke into the boat and pushed it sideways and rolled it. "At that point I opened my eyes and looked around and I could see the other people's legs in the boat dangling."

Cleveland says a number of people helped rescue the crew. "One guy dove off his ski and dove under the boat made sure there was nobody under there."

All eight people on board were pulled to safety and no one was hurt. Cleveland says he lost thousands of dollars worth of camera equipment.

The boat only has minor damage.

"It wasn't a big deal getting hit by the wave, it was a big deal getting hit by the wave on a boat," said Cleveland.

Ballistic TV airs Sunday at 10 p.m. on KFVE.
