HONOLULU (AP) - There are plans to allow the University of Hawaii to use its Stan Sheriff Center for events such as concerts.
When the center was built in 1994, an agreement restricted it from competing with city-owned and operated Blaisdell Center for commercial activity.
The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports the university's Board of Regents approved plans last week to generate revenue for the struggling athletic department with non-university sporting events.
Those events may include concerts, fundraisers, Broadway shows and comedy shows.
The center could also host non-UH athletic events such as arena football and NBA exhibitions.
