Walmart to hire 150 for new downtown Honolulu store

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Walmart on Monday announced it has opened a temporary hiring center to fill approximately 150 associate positions for the new downtown Honolulu Walmart on Fort Street Mall.

The temporary hiring center, located in Kaakako at 627 South St., Suite 103, is across from Honolulu Fire Department Headquarters between Halekauwila St. and Queen St. Walmart's new downtown store is scheduled to open summer 2014.

Applications will be accepted Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Interested applicants may also apply online at

According to store manager Ray Griego, the store will be hiring both full- and part-time associates for all areas of the new store, including supervisory positions. "I look forward to meeting applicants who are interested in building a career at Walmart and to bringing not only new jobs, but also a convenient new shopping option to downtown Honolulu," said Griego.

Walmart say the majority of new associates will begin work in April to help prepare the store for its grand opening.

The new Walmart will open in the downtown space that was recently vacated by Macy's.
