HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team saw its three-game win streak come to an end following a 56-52 loss to UC Davis Saturday at The Pavilion. The Rainbow Wahine (14-11, 8-6 Big West) were looking to sweep their road trip following a victory over UC Irvine on Thursday.
Playing without Kamilah Jackson for the third straight game, UH led for much of the second half before the Aggies (11-14, 6-6) mounted a 7-0 run to take a 52-47 lead with 1:33 remaining. Shawna-Lei Kuehu knocked down a bucket on UH's next possession but UCD answered as Molly Greubel converted her only basket of the game - a three-pointer - giving the Aggies a 55-49 lead.
UH was not done as Ashleigh Karaitiana responded with a quick trey with 38 seconds left and the Rainbow Wahine elected to foul. Sydnee Fipps, who finished with a game-high 22 points, made one of two free throws giving the Aggies a 56-52 lead and the Rainbow Wahine turned the ball over on its ensuing possession, all but ending any comeback.
Destiny King led the Rainbow Wahine with 12 points and six rebounds while Kuehu added 10 points. Kalei Adolpho saw her most extensive action of the season, chipping in with season-highs of five points and 11 rebounds. Karaitiana finished with seven points and nine boards.
Hawai'i converted 35.2 percent from the field while UCD shot 43.2 percent. Alyson Doherty finished with 15 points including two big baskets down the stretch, which put the Aggies ahead for good.
UH scored the final five points of the first half, capped by a Marissa Wimbley trey with 32 seconds left, to tie the score at 23 at halftime.
