Power restored to 1,300 MECO customers in Kahului

KAHULUI, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Electrical services were restored to approximately 1,300 customers in the Kahului area shortly after 8:00 a.m. Saturday, after officials say a bird came in contact with a lightning arrester.

Maui Electric Company customers lost power around 7:30 a.m. Saturday.

MECO officials restored power to all customers shortly after 8:00 a.m.

    Nearly a year after a landslide in Kipahulu, repairs are getting underway to fix parts of Piilani Highway at the Nuanualoa Gulch. The repairs are part of a 7-month-long, nearly $2 million project. Daily road closures will begin February 5th as Hawaiian Dredging Construction crews bring in equipment to build a retaining wall, put up guard rails and complete other safety measures.
