Auburn Women's Basketball falls to No. 10 Tenn.

The Auburn women's basketball team fell to No. 10 Tennessee in Knoxville, Thursday night, 93-63.

The Lady Vols, coming off a heartbreaking home loss to Kentucky, came out strong to start the game, shooting 60 percent from the field in the first half to lead Auburn 54-33, the most points given up by Auburn in a half this year. The Tigers committed 10 of its 18 turnovers in that first stanza, allowing UT to generate 17 points off miscues.

"Tennessee is very good at home, and they score in bunches," said head coach Terri Williams-Flournoy. "You can't let them take control like that."

Auburn played better second-half defense, limiting the Lady Vols to 39 points on 38 percent shooting. The Tigers were led in the second half by sophomore Tra'cee Tanner, who scored 10 of her 14 points after the break. She finished the game shooting 6-of-15 and had a double-double with 10 rebounds.

"When you're down by 21, there's really nothing to lose but to play harder," Williams-Flournoy said. "Tra'cee (Tanner) scored inside better in the second half, but those same possessions were there in the first half, she just wasn't as aggressive."

Despite being in foul trouble, four Auburn players finished the game with double-digit scoring. Tyrese Tanner finished the game with a team-high 15 points in only 19 minutes played, her 23rd double-digit game this season. Freshman Brandy Montgomery scored 12 points and Hasina Muhammad added 10 (playing only 20 minutes).

Auburn returns home to host Georgia on Sunday, Feb. 23 for Senior Day. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. from Auburn Arena. The Tigers will honor seniors Tyrese Tanner and Peyton Davis, as well as manager Quintin Miles.
