University of Hawaii releases 2014 football schedule

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

The 2014 University of Hawai'i football schedule is complete with the release of the Mountain West conference slate. The Rainbow Warriors will play five non-conference games in the first six weeks of the season, before playing eight straight Mountain West games to round out the schedule.

The Rainbow Warriors play its first three games at home and for the second straight season will open the season with consecutive Pac-12  opponents. UH kicks off the 2014 campaign at Hawaiian Airlines Field at Aloha Stadium against Washington on Saturday, Aug. 30 in the first meeting between the teams since a 2011 contest in Seattle.  UH will then face Oregon State, a team they fell to 33-14 in Corvallis last season, on Saturday, Sept. 6.

UH concludes its season-opening homestand against Northern Iowa on Saturday, Sept.  13, before playing its next two contests on the road. UH will play at Colorado on Saturday, Sept. 20, enjoy a bye week, then travel to Houston, Texas for matchup with former Western Athletic Conference rival Rice on Saturday, Oct. 11.

Hawai`i will play three of its first four league games at home, opening its Mountain West schedule against Wyoming on Saturday, Oct. 11 at Aloha Stadium. After playing at San Diego State on Saturday, Oct. 18, UH returns to the islands for consecutive home games versus Nevada (Oct. 25) and Utah State (Nov. 1).

The team concludes the season with three of its final four games on the road, beginning with back-to-back  trips to Colorado State (Nov. 8) and San Jose State (Nov. 15). UH hosts UNLV in its regular-season home finale on Saturday, Nov. 22 , before taking on defending Mountain West champion Fresno State at Bulldog Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 29.

The scheduling format for the 12-member Mountain West consists of five intra-divisional games and three cross-divisional contests. This is the second year of the initial four-year cycle in which each member institution will play every other Mountain West opponent home and away. The Mountain West Football Championship Game will be played at the home stadium of the highest-ranked of the two divisional champions on Saturday, Dec. 6.
