KPD commission member resigns amid probe

Weeks after the FBI raided his home, a member of Kauai's Police Commission is stepping down.

Thirty-seven year-old Bradley Chiba is under investigation for illegal sports betting. And sources tell us the Feds have questioned several people who placed large bets with Chiba.

One expert says the agency's involvement indicates that it might be a large-scale operation.

"It has to be in the millions (of dollars) I think for the FBI to have some sort of interest," said former FBI agent Hilton Lui.

Chiba has served on the commission since April 2011 and is the agency's co-vice chairman. Commission Chairman Charlie Iona issued this statement:

"Due to the ongoing investigation, it is my understanding that Bradley has decided to resign," he said.

As we first reported on Tuesday, FBI agents searched Chiba's home in Lihue on Super Bowl Sunday. They took a computer and written documents but did not arrest him. The investigation is pending.

Chiba faces a separate investigation by the Department of Public Safety where he has worked as a prisoner intake manager for the past several years.

He's currently on leave from that post.

It remains to be seen if Chiba's alleged customers include any high-profile community members.
