Kahana valley park restrooms to be renovated

HONOLULU (AP) - Ahupuaa o Kahana State Park is getting some renovations.

The state Department of Land and Natural Resources said Tuesday it will repair and improve restrooms at the park's coconut grove and visitor orientation areas starting this month.

A contractor will install new fixtures and partitions and repair floors. The Division of State Parks plans will make portable toilets available during the renovations.

Workers will also install rain gutters and parking.

The $450,000 project is expected to be completed in October.

Ahupuaa O Kahana State Park is designed to nurture and foster native Hawaiian cultural traditions and the cultural landscape of rural windward Oahu.

Thirty-one families live in the valley and help with the park's interpretive programs by sharing Hawaiian values and lifestyle with park visitors.
