(NBC News) - As another winter storm moves across the country, officials continue to tally up the costs from the last one, and try to figure out how to pay for the next one sure to come with more than a month of winter left.
The cost of clearing roads has taken a toll on government budgets across the country.
Chicago budgeted $20 million for plowing and salting roads this winter. The city has already spent $ 25 million.
Supplies have also been drained.
Rhode Island and Ohio are running low on salt, and so are their suppliers.
The relentless storms have led to the highest number of flight cancellations in more than 25 years, over 75,000 domestic flights canceled since December 1st.
School districts are also working to reschedule missed days, with many looking toward the weekends as an option.
