SOLON, OH (WOIO) -

A Cleveland man is dead after an early morning traffic stop in Solon.

On February 15, 2014 at 2:23 a.m. a Solon Police Officer stopped a silver 2008 Chevrolet Impala SS for suspicion of OVI on Arthur Road at the intersection of S.O.M. Center Road.

As the Officer began walking towards the car, the 42-year old suspect drove off heading westbound on Arthur Road.

Before the Officer could get back to his car to chase him, the suspect's car disappeared over a hill.

Officers searching the area located the suspect vehicle which had apparently lost control, drove through a traffic island, overturned, and landed in a front yard on Arthur Road.

As Officers approached the crash scene, they noticed the driver had been ejected from his car.

He was taken to Hillcrest Hospital where he died.

The victim's name is not being released, pending notification of next of kin, but his last known address is in Cleveland.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office and Solon Police are investigating.

It is unknown at this time why the driver fled; however, he was driving with a suspended license.
