AIEA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A female in her late 20s or early 30s has died after she was struck by a vehicle on Kamehameha Highway around 4:22 a.m. Saturday, police said.
According to the Honolulu Police Department, the collision occurred near Pali Momi Street fronting Pearlridge shopping center.
Officials say the pedestrian, of a Honolulu address, was crossing Kamehameha Highway when she was struck by a vehicle in the eastbound lanes.
"We believe she was crossing in the makai direction when she was struck," Honolulu police Lt. Bobby Towne said.
The driver of the vehicle, a Aiea woman in her early 20s, was not injured. "Basically she didn't see the female until it was too late," Towne said.
HPD says the pedestrian was not in the crosswalk at the time of the accident and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials said it was raining at the time of the accident. Initial investigations show that speed and alcohol may not be factors at this time.
According to HPD, the accident remains under investigation.
