BRIGHTON, Mass., Feb. 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The national governing body for rowing in the United States, USRowing, and the largest rowing club in the world, Community Rowing (CRI), today announced an exciting partnership to promote the Institute for Rowing Leadership (IRL) Fellowship Program at CRI.

In its fourth year, the yearlong post-graduate level coaching education program develops leaders in the life-changing sport of rowing through Active Learning education. It is the first sport specific certification program to adopt the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) National Standards for Sport Coaches in a full-time, yearlong program.

"We are delighted to have USRowing's support and partnership with the IRL," said CRI Executive Director Bruce Smith. "USRowing's staff and leadership of the U.S. National Team add a new level of depth and expertise to our Program."

Glenn Merry, CEO of USRowing, said, "Community Rowing's IRL Fellowship Program is a unique and innovative opportunity to develop high-quality leaders for our sport. CRI's leadership serves the long-term growth of rowing, and USRowing is excited to support this coaching education program."

Fellows attend daily classes taught by top-level instructors from universities including Brown, Boston, Northeastern, and Harvard. In addition, fellows implement learning through a mentored program with world-class coaches on the Charles River.
