Maui firefighters respond to house fire in Kihei

KIHEI, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) -

The Maui Fire Department is investigating a structure fire on Kaipii Place that happened at about 11:20 p.m. on Thursday.

When firefighters arrived on scene shortly before 11:30 p.m., the bottom unit of a two-story house had been fully engulfed, with flames extending to the top floor.

The occupants -- a mother and daughter -- as well as neighbors were evacuated, and there were no injuries or damage to any exposures, according to officials. The fire was extinguished at about 2 a.m. on Friday.

About 50 percent of the 3,000-square-foot home was destroyed. Damages to the structure were estimated at $400,000, and $50,000 to contents of the home.
