LAS VEGAS, NEVADA (HawaiiNewsNow) - The UH softball team is in Las Vegas for its next six games and Hawaii is making the most of it.
Bob Coolen's Rainbow Wahine defeated UTEP, 10-5, in the Easton Desert Classic on Thursday.
UTEP scored runs in the bottom of the first inning, but Hawai'i answered right back in the top of the second to tie the game at 5-5. The second inning was highlighted two-run double by Sharla Kliebenstein followed by a three-run home run by Alyssa Villalpando in her first start of the season.
UH added one run in the third on a solo home run by Leisha Li`ili`i. Then in the fourth, the 'Bows added four more runs on an RBI-ground out by Jazmine Zamora; an RBI single by Keiki Carlos, and a two-run single by Heather Morales.
Morales also earned the win, improving her record to 4-1. She fired her third complete game of the season, allowing five runs on six hits with a walk and four strike outs.
UTEP threw three pitchers against the 'Bows. Kaitlin Fifield suffered the loss (0-1) throwing the first two innings, allowing six runs on five hits with two walks and a strike out.
