WAIPAHU, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - After nearly 40 years of business, Futaba Restaurant and Catering will be serving its last meal on Feb. 23.
The family-owned business -- established on July 1, 1975 -- was best known for serving up Japanese food with items such as shrimp tempura, sashimi and noodle dishes. But its owners Tadao Nezu, 80, and Carol Nezu, 70, said they are ready to retire.
"I think it's time we close the door," Carol Nezu said.
Tadao Nezu, Futaba's chef, honed his cooking skills in Japan and was the official cook for Emperor Akihito's wedding.
