ATLANTA (CBS46) -

Georgia Power has issued the following update on service to its 2.4 million customers across the state of Georgia. The company's Storm Center in Atlanta has been open since Monday morning, coordinating more than 5,000 Georgia Power employees, contractors and workers from other utilities brought in to assist in restoration efforts following the severe weather.

"Ice is probably one of the worst events that we face and when you're talking about the amount of ice we're looking at, it's catastrophic," said Chief Emergency Executive of Georgia Power Aaron Strickland. "We started rolling crews into the state of Georgia. We're pulling crews from Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, [and] Pennsylvania."

Georgia Power had more than 5,000 people, including  more than 1,000 linemen, staged where they believe there will be most power problems.

There were several staging areas for Georgia Power crews throughout metro Atlanta. The staging areas are in Cobb, Gwinnett, DeKalb, and Henry counties and Augusta in addition to the main headquarters in Atlanta.

You can sign up to receive text or email notifications about power outages on the Georgia Power website.

You can also follow them on Twitter.

You can call 1-888-891-0938 to report an outage. The number will be staffed 24/7.
