A highly-sought 4-star football recruit who signed with Auburn University on National Signing Day last week has been arrested and charged with two felony charges and a misdemeanor in Florida.

Auburn signee Kalvaraz Bessent was arrested, along with three others, around 10 p.m. Friday in Nassau County, Florida after the vehicle they were in was pulled over for speeding. The vehicle was going 58 in a 45 mph zone.

The Nassau County Sheriff's Department says the officer smelled marijuana and searched the vehicle. The search ended with the discovery of four bags of marijuana totaling 202.5 grams.

No one in the vehicle took ownership of the drugs and each was arrested.

Bessent, a passenger in the vehicle, was charged with felony possession of more than 20 grams of marijuana and felony intent to distribute. He was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor. Each of the others, including driver Elbert Thornton, face the same charges, according to the sheriff.

Bessent later posted a bond of $5,500 and was released. He is scheduled to be arraigned on February 27.

An Auburn University spokesperson says Coach Gus Malzahn is aware of the situation and is continuing to gather information.

Bessent later tweeted "God knows the truth and he is going to stick with me through this if nobody else will!!" on his twitter account @Kalvarexbessent

Bessent, a St. Mary's, Georgia native, was originally committed to the Crimson Tide but was flipped by Auburn during the recruiting process. He officially signed with the Tigers on Feb. 5.

He is considered one of the nation's top cornerbacks with 247sports rating him No. 11 and ESPN rating him the No. 9.
