ProVest Insurance Group and Chris Evert Childrens Hospital at Broward Health Medical Center join forces to launch the Sickle Cell Anemia Risks Teens Education campaign. The main goal is to purchase a laptop computer, so that patient Diamond Blands can keep up with her homework while receiving treatments at the hospital.
Broward County, Fla. (PRWEB) February 07, 2014
ProVest Insurance Group, in collaboration with Chris Evert Childrens Hospital at Broward Health Medical Center, announced the launch of a community campaign to benefit a 16-year-old Sickle Cell anemia-afflicted patient. Diamond Blands was diagnosed at birth with the hereditary disease, and she receives new blood units monthly in order to keep a healthy level of red blood cells. The trips to the hospital have affected her academic performance, and having a personal computer to bring along while receiving treatments would be beneficial to her, according to experts.
Despite the many impediments shes faced, family, friends and hospital staff attest that Diamond values her education, and strives to maintain good grades. However, in addition to missing classes and homework due to treatment, symptoms such as excessive fatigue, shortness of breath, attacks of abdominal pain, poor eyesight, and problems with thinking or confusion, make it difficult for Diamond to follow the regular program.
Diamonds family has struggled to support her financially, so to keep this Diamond shining bright, the ProVest and Chris Evert Childrens Hospital campaign aims to raise enough funds to purchase a laptop and the software Diamond needs to stay up to date with the demands of her 11th grade program. When planning the campaign, Ann Fogel, Child Life Coordinator at the hospital said, Due to financial and medical issues, Diamond and her family did not have a Christmas holiday It would be wonderful if we could ring in 2014 by making at least one of her dreams come true.
And besides her academic gains, experts also believe having her own portable computer would help minimize Diamonds anxiety and motivate a speedier post-treatment recovery.
The campaign is now active through the GoFundMe online platform, and donations are being accepted at http://www.gofundme.com/6juvig. Contributors may be acknowledged for their donations through ProVests social media channels and monthly magazine. We are thrilled when we see the community get involved in our causes and help us propagate goodness. We say it and repeat it all the time: every dollar counts! And we are willing to double individual donations to up to $10, said Jay Adkins, founder of ProVest Insurance Group.
