HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The National Weather Service has extended a high surf advisory for the north and west-facing shores of Kauai, Niihau, Oahu and Molokai, and for north-facing shores of Maui.
The advisory remains in effect until 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
Forecasters expect surf heights to fall below advisory criteria on Tuesday, but then rise to 18 to 24 feet for north-facing shores, and 12 to 18 feet for west-facing shores in the evening into Wednesday.
The swell will result in strong breaking waves, shore break and longshore and rip currents that will make swimming difficult and dangerous. The National Weather Service advises beachgoers, swimmers and surfers to exercise caution.
