Police have arrested the man suspected of robbing the Bank of Hawaii in Kapaa Wednesday afternoon.

Joshua Carlsen, age 36 of Kapaa, was arrested Tuesday night for First Degree Robbery and is currently being held in Police Cellblock in lieu of $100,000 bail.

The robbery occurred shortly before 1 p.m. at the Bank of Hawaii on Kuhio Highway, when a male suspect passed a bank teller a note stating that he had a gun and demanded money.

He then fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Shortly after the robbery, police received a tip that the suspect may have been seen near Hauaala Road in Kapaa, but a search turned up no sign of the suspect.

Officers and detectives continued their search into the night, questioning bystanders and residents in the Kapaa area, when at around 10:30 p.m. two people recognized the suspect shown in the surveillance photos.

Checks were made in the suspect's alleged neighborhood, and Carlsen was located and arrested at his home on Hauaala Road shortly after midnight.

The public is reminded that an individual's arrest is not evidence of guilt and that all Defendants in a criminal case are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
