Man arrested for rash of Apple products, electronics burglaries

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

There's a mixed blessing when it comes to the popular Apple electronics. They're lightweight and easy to carry, but that's also a plus for crooks looking to steal them.

Neighborhood leaders of Chestnut Hill and Wedgewood-Houston claim their area has seen about a dozen break-ins with the crooks largely bypassing the big items in favor of Apple products and other electronics.

Now, they're hoping an arrest Tuesday afternoon will bring it all to an end.

Friday, Brian Thompson, of Nashville, said his roommate came face-to-face with someone trying to bust down the back door of their Chestnut Hill home.

"He was about to throw his shoulder into the door again, and he looked up and made eye contact with my roommate," said Thompson. "My roommate asked what he was doing. The guy looked up, smirked at him, and he ran off through the back and hopped the fence back there."

Monday, Thompson said he came home to find a Macbook and a desktop computer stolen.

"Pretty surprised they took that computer when there are guitars in here that are worth twice the amount of it," said Thompson.

"Ipads are expensive, and they're just easy to grab and go," said neighbor Cheri Sanford. "I can't see someone grabbing a big flat screen TV and easily getting out of someone's house."

Metro police arrested and charged Montez Webster with the burglaries Tuesday afternoon. Police said Webster was spotted looking into windows on Hamilton Street and was carrying a satchel full of electronics when he was arrested. They haven't released a mug shot yet because they want to put him in a photo lineup for other possible victims.
