CLARKSVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Eleven students were transported to area hospitals after a pair of buses from the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System collided Monday afternoon in Clarksville.

According to Clarksville police, one bus crashed into the rear of another bus near the intersection of Peachers Mill Road and Tiny Town Road about 2:45 p.m.

The school system said the buses involved were numbers 97-23 and 09-13, with about 40 students on board from West Creek middle and high schools.

A representative for the school system said all of the injuries were considered minor, and 11 students were transported to either Gateway Medical Center or Blanchfield Army Community Hospital for further treatment.

Police said the driver of bus 97-23, Erika Gaines, of Clarksville, claimed that her brakes went out, which caused her to run into the back of bus 09-13. The Tennessee Highway Patrol inspected bus 97-23 and found there was nothing wrong with the brakes.

Gaines was cited for following too closely.
