The suspect in the murder of a five-year-old Cleveland girl will be arraigned on Thursday.

Geoffrey Gurkovich, 32, was arrested without incident in Newburgh Heights with the assistance of Cleveland Police on Tuesday.

According to police, Gurkovich fired several shots into an SUV where Jermani Brooks, 5, her mother, Noni, 33, a baby and another child were sitting late Sunday night on Crossburn Avenue in Cleveland.

Jermani and Noni were shot in the head. The little girl died, and her mother remains hospitalized in fair condition at Metro.

The baby and the other child were not injured.

Noni's boyfriend, whom police believe may have been the intended target, was inside the Crossburn Avenue home. Gurkovich's girlfriend allegedly got into an altercation with the boyfriend earlier that night. Investigators believe Gurkovich went to the Crossburn Avenue home looking for him.

There will be a vigil for Noni and Jermani Brooks on Thursday. It is the day the little girl would have turned 6-years-old.
