Funeral Friday for Hanover jogger killed in DUI crash

MECHANICSVILLE, VA (WWBT) -

Friends and family will say goodbye Friday to the Hanover County mother who was killed while out jogging Monday.

Meg Menzies was out for her morning jog along Patrick Henry Road when she was hit and killed by a drunk driver. Police say Dr. Michael Carlson was behind the wheel of the car that hit her. Court documents reveal Carlson had beer and prescription drugs in his car at the time of the accident.

Menzies funeral is set for 11:00 a.m. Friday morning at Cool Springs Baptist Church.

Mezies death has drawn an outpouring of support across the country. A Richmond company has even created t-shirts to support Meg Menzies family.

Saturday, there will be a group run/walk in honor of Meg. Everyone will meet at 9:00 a.m. at the River's Edge Elementary School bus loop and walk, run or bike to Deep Run High School
