KAKAAKO, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Three hours to buy a burger? It's hardly fast food, but there were no complaints from customers eager to try the original ramen burger.
A one day pop up at Taste Table attracted hundreds to Kakaako.
The line wrapped all the way around the block from Auahi Street to Ala Moana Boulevard.
"I was just curious about it" said Jean Sumait. She was first in line, and for her it was love at first bite. She described it as "succulent and juicy."
Allen Campbell agreed, saying the burger "bursts in your mouth, the flavors."
Sun Noodle's Hisae Uki, who provided the ramen for the buns said, "your first bite is kind of like having your favorite burger and favorite noodles all into one."
Taste Table Chef Mark Noguchi described it this way. "it's a party in your mouth. It's got a lot going on."
He pointed out the man behind the burger. Keizo Shimamoto brought his creation from New York to Hawaii for one day only.
He perfected the bun in Japan to get it crunchy on the outside, and chewy inside.
The two chefs talked about the process. "Keizo you spent about a year figuring this out" asked Noguchi. Shimamoto responded from the kitchen, "I just messed around the whole time."
Noguchi invited Keizo to whip up his world famous burger using local ingredients.
The sauce is a secret, but, the recipe for success is not. "Hawaii people we love noodles and we love hamburgers" said Noguchi.
Customers agreed 100 percent, even after a 2 to 4 hour wait. They told us, "It was 10 dollars but it was worth it, definitely worth it."
