UPDATE: The Isabella County Sheriff's office says 49-year-old Dennis Paul Pratt, of Saginaw, was arrested and charged  in connection to the theft of used batteries from a Wal-Mart.

Authorities said the arrest was made possible by a couple of television viewers who recognized the man while watching local newscasts. Investigators later determined that Pratt had hauled away 4,017 pounds of batteries using his 1/2 ton pickup truck.

Pratt was arraigned on larceny and malicious destruction of a building charges.

Pratt is currently lodged at the Isabella County Jail on $100,000 bond.

Sheriff's deputies in Mount Pleasant are looking for the thief behind the heist of 180 used car batteries from a Wal-Mart.

Isabella County Sheriff Leo Mioduszewski said on Friday evening, Jan. 10, an individual stole the batteries from a secured fenced-in area outside the Tire Lube Express at Wal-Mart. Authorities said the suspect hooked a chain to the back of his green pickup with silver bottom and the other end to the locked gate. He then used his pickup to pull open the gate.

Police said the thief ended up making off with approximately 180 batteries that were valued at $1,600.

The Isabella County Sheriff's Department has obtained a good quality video from the store that shows the suspect quite well.
