TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

The last week has been torture for the family of Patrick Balbastro.

"He was just starting his life, just starting his life. Young , so young , and he had it taken away, you know I didn't get a chance. And we all love Patrick he's a good worker," said his Aunt Hilda.

Neither she nor his sister Lorraine wanted to show their faces on camera, but they were both relieved to finally know the face and name of his accused killer Michael Leday.

"This monster took my brother's life away," Lorraine said.

Tucson Police said that Leday left Junxion Bar downtown early New Year's Day with Cindy Burnett.  After a Yellow Cab dropped the pair on Sunland Vista near 36th and Campbell, a struggle started between them.  When Patrick Balbastro and his girlfriend drove upon the situation, Balbastro tried to intervene.  At some point his girlfriend also got out of the car.  Police said that Leday repeatedly drove over all three with with Balbastro's car, which killed Burnett and Balbastro and sent Balbastro's girlfriend to the hospital in critical condition.

"He doesn't belong out. He doesn't belong in the public. He needs to be behind bars before he hurts somebody else," Lorraine said.

Balbastro's family says the mine electrician was going places.  Now the urge anyone who knows where his killer is to speak up.

"People are afraid. But, like I said, if they are like he was they wouldn't hesitate to help someone who was in trouble like that," Hilda said.

His family said that the loss has placed significant financial strain on them as they try to give him a respectable burial.

Anyone with information on Leday can report it anonymously at 88-CRIME.
