LIHUE, KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Beachgoers got a rare sighting of a blue shark this week after it washed up on a Kauai beach.
The 7-to-8 foot shark was initially spotted Tuesday evening trapped along the shoreline near the Kaiakea Fire Station. Witnesses say it appeared the adult female had been caught by a longline fisherman and immediately released.
By the time volunteers with the National Oceanic and Atomoshperic Administration arrived at the scene the following morning, the shark had died.
