Dentist blamed for Kailua girl's death closes practice

Finley Boyle Finley Boyle
KAILUA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

The dentist sued after the death of a 3 year old patient has closed her practice.

Dr. Lilly Geyer is notifying patients in a letter that they need to find a new dentist. The letter obtained by Hawaii News Now does not mention anything about Finley Boyle's death, just that the Kailua office is now closed.

Geyer's practice first shut down in December after Boyle went into cardiac arrest during an appointment.

The letter says "Effective January 1, 2014, Island Dentistry Inc. and Lilly L. Geyer, are closing their Kailua dental practice and will no longer be providing dental services. It has been our pleasure to provide your dental health care needs over the years."

Geyer has been sued by Finley's mother Ashley. The suit claims Island Dentistry and Dr. Geyer were negligent administering a highly potent mixture of sedatives that resulted in the death of her daughter.

Boyle also questions whether her daughter really had 10 cavities and needed 4 root canals, but says she trusted Dr. Geyer.

The letter also offers the names of other pediatric dentists in the Kailua area and explains what patients need to do to transfer their records.
