HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -
The University of Hawaii football team will name Kevin Clune its next Defensive Coordinator, sources confirmed with Hawaii News Now.
Sources told me that Clune's contract was officially approved and signed by UH Athletic Director Ben Jay early Tuesday evening and that Clune would replace former DC Thom Kaumeyer on the Rainbow Warriors staff.
From 2009 through the 2013 season, Clune had served as Utah State's linebacker coach, helped mentor some of the best Aggie defenders to come through the school in recent memory. Among those Aggie standouts, Bobby Wagner who was a three-time first team all conference selection and now plays for the Seattle Seahawks.
The Aggies ranked 7th nationally in scoring defense, allowing just 17.1 points per game. By contrast, the Rainbow Warriors finished 116th in points scored against at 38.8 points per game.
