Heavy rain, strong winds cause Oahu road closures

Update 2:30 p.m.:

 Pali Hwy was reopened at 1:30 p.m.

Update 1:33 p.m.:

Both west bound and east bound center lanes now OPEN on Farrington Hwy at Maipalaoa Rd. 

Update 6:50 a.m.:

All lanes are open at Farrington Highway by Makua Cave. However, both westbound and eastbound center lanes have been closed on Farrington Highway at Maipalaoa Road due to a low-hanging utility pole and wires.

Heavy rain and strong winds across Oahu on Thursday night caused landslides and downed utility lines that have affected road access across the island.

Affected areas:

Pali Highway:
  • Closed at upper Nuuanu Pali Drive - Kailua bound
  • Mudslide near Kailua side of the Pali tunnel
Farrington Highway:
  • Closed by Makua Cave
  • Fallen boulders
Kunia Road:
  • Closed between Kunia Village to Kunia tunnel - Wahiawa bound
  • Knocked down utility pole
