No tsunami threat to Hawaii after 6.6 quake near Vanuatu Islands

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A strong earthquake shook an area near the Vanuatu Islands but was not strong enough to generate a tsunami threat to Hawaii.

The quake was measured at a magnitude 6.6, according to preliminary reports from the U.S. Geological Survey.

The earthquake happened shortly after 6 a.m. HST at a depth of 122 miles.
