Man dies after car falls into ravine on Kauai

WAILUA, KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Officials on Kauai say a man is dead after the car he was driving fell into a ravine in Wailua.

He has not yet been identified by Kauai officials.

They say the man died Sunday morning, several hours after the car he was driving veered off the roadway, hit a tree and fell nearly 30 feet onto an embankment.

Officials say a motorcyclist in the area heard cries for help around 8:30 a.m. Sunday. He said the man told him he had been there for several hours.

After the motorcyclist reported it to authorities, Kapaa fire fighters rappelled down but found the man had died.

The road was closed at Kuamo'o Road/Loop Road for approximately four hours while emergency responders performed the extrication and an investigation was conducted.
