HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended a Flood Advisory until 3 a.m. for parts of the Big Island.

Forecasters said at 11:48 p.m., radar showed scattered moderate to heavy rain stretching from Ookala to the Puna District and including Hilo. The area of heavy rain was nearly stationary.

Other locations in the advisory include but are not limited to Pepeekeo, Papaikou, Ookala, Laupahoehoe, Honomu and Hakalau.

Persons in the advisory areas should avoid streams, drainage ditches and other low-lying areas prone to flooding. Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking.

The advisory may be extended if the heavy rain persists.
