HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Police have opened a murder investigation in the brutal beating of a homeless man on King Street.
The 62-year-old man died of his injuries, after he was assaulted by three or four men, police said.
"I couldn't recognize him. It was like they beat him with something," said Brian Christman, who saw the victim lying on the ground after the incident.
"They messed him up real bad."
Police don't have a motive and provided no description of the suspects.
The victim also was not identified but was known to sleep in the area.
"He was peaceful. He never bothered anyone," Christman said.
The case is the third deadly assault on a homeless man since October and the latest beating has shaken up the area's homeless community.
Christman said he didn't witness the beating but one of the group members nearly ran him over with a bicycle.
"They were yelling and screaming they were going to get rid of the homeless in this area," he said.
