31 new officers to join Honolulu police force

HONOLULU (AP) - A recruit class of 27 men and four women will be joining the ranks of the Honolulu Police Department.

The recruits are scheduled to graduate Friday evening during a ceremony at the Hawaii Okinawa Center.

The department says the recruits include a former HPD criminalist, a former HPD dispatcher and two former University of Hawaii football players. Nearly a third of them have military backgrounds, with several having served tours of duty in the Middle East.

It's the department's 175th police recruit class.

The new officers will be paired with veteran officers as they gain experience in the field.
