New Laniakea traffic barriers hit by Christmas graffiti

NORTH SHORE, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - It didn't take long for graffiti to show up on the new beach barriers at Laniakea on Oahu's North Shore.

Just hours after they were installed, someone spray painted the words, "Merry Christmas North Shore," as an apparent sarcastic response to the unpopular parking barricade. The barriers were installed on Christmas Eve.

The Department of Transportation is leaving them up for at least one month to see if they keep traffic flowing near the popular beach for turtle watching. So far, traffic on Kamehameha Highway seems to be as bad as ever, if not worse, with the added danger of people parking illegally or in spaces farther down the road and then walking to the beach.
