HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - President Barack Obama and his family have arrived on Oahu for the Christmas holidays.
Air Force One touched down at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam at 11:30 p.m. Friday. About fifteen minutes after landing, the aircraft came to a stop on the tarmac.
The president and first lady were greeted by Gov. Neil Abercrombie, Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell and Admiral Locklear. President Obama shook hands with a small group of military service members before departing Hickam in a motorcade for Kailua.
The arrival was not open to the public and the president did not make any statement.
This is the first family's sixth Christmas in Hawaii, Obama is a Punahou graduate and was born in Hawaii.
Earlier Friday, President Obama held a news conference where he told one reporter "Mele Kalikimaka."
The president is scheduled to be in Honolulu through Jan. 5.
