Thousands of Hawaiian Electric customers without power after poles struck

Update 10:45 p.m.

Power was restored to all remaining customers in the Kalihi area.

Update 10:35 p.m.

Hawaiian Electric crews have restored power to approximately 200 customers in Kalihi. As of 10:30 pm, an estimated 400 customers in the area remain out of power. 

Update 9:00 p.m.

Hawaiian Electric crews have restored power to most of the customers affected by the outage caused by the motor vehicle accident on Liliha Street. As of 9:00 pm, 15 customers in Liliha were without power. Unfortunately, they will remain without power until crews complete repairs to the utility pole damaged in the motor vehicle accident.

Hawaiian Electric crews are responding to two separate power outages Tuesday evening, both caused by motor vehicle accidents.

The first outage started at approximately 5:30 p.m. when a utility pole on Liliha Street was damaged in a motor vehicle accident. The outage affected approximately 1,100 customers in the area. About 600 customers were restored by 6:30 p.m.  

Hawaiian Electric crews also responded to a second outage that started at approximately 7:30 p.m. when a utility pole near the intersection of King Street and Umi Street was damaged in a motor vehicle accident. An estimated 1,300 customers are affected.
