Lady Tornadoes stay unbeaten in thriller; Monroe boys win

The Monroe Lady Tornadoes entered Tuesday's game 7-0, sitting in first place in Region 1-AAAA.

They needed almost each and every last second to move to 8-0 against a pesky Americus-Sumter team.

The Lady Panthers led by five with four minutes remaining before Monroe made their final push.

Jamekia Morine scored two baskets, one on a nice spin move into the lane and another going coast-to-coast on a rebound, to tie the ballgame with a minute to play.

The Monroe defense forced a Lady Panther turnover that Keshundra Price converted into a fast break layup to take a 61-59 lead with 41 seconds remaining.

The Tornadoes added a free throw, and held Americus-Sumter scoreless for the final 2:30 for a 62-59 comeback win.

Monroe is now 8-0 in 2013. The Lady Tornadoes head to the WACO Christmas Classic on December 20.

The Monroe boys held off the Panthers in a defensive battle.

The Tornadoes turned to Napoleon Harris early and often in the first quarter, and he delivered. Harris scored four of the Tornadoes' eight first quarter points.

Monroe is staying home for the holidays, taking part in the annual U Save It Christmas Tournament beginning December 20.
