High surf advisory in effect for north facing shores

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A large northwest swell will arrive at Kauai late this morning, and then Oahu and Maui County this afternoon. The Swell will peak late tonight through early Saturday, but the large surf will persist through Saturday night.

A High Surf Advisory remains in effect from 10 a.m.  until 6 a.m. Sunday.

Surf: north facing shores, rising rapidly to 14 to 18 feet late this afternoon, and peaking at 20 to 24 feet early Saturday morning. West facing Shores, rising rapidly to 8 to 12 feet late this afternoon, and peaking at 12 to 16 feet early Saturday morning.

Timing: building late this afternoon and peaking early Saturday morning.

Impacts: moderate, expect strong breaking waves, Shore break, and strong Longshore and Rip currents making swimming difficult and dangerous.
