Maui man charged with sexually assaulting minor found in Thailand

The U.S. Marshals Hawaii Fugitive Task Force assisted the Maui Prosecuting Attorney's Office and the Maui Police Department in locating 46-year-old Steven Strike. On February 7, 2012, Maui Police Department received a complaint that alleges Steven Strike of Paia, Maui, sexually molested a minor for over a year. Strike was questioned by MPD and subsequently arrested for continuous sexual assault of a minor under the age of fourteen years. After being booked and processed at MPD, Strike was released pending further investigation.

On February 1, 2013, Steven Strike was indicted by a Maui Grand Jury for the alleged sexual assault. Maui Police Officials were unable to locate Strike and learned that a few days after his initial arrest that he fled the Hawaii. In October 2013, the Maui Prosecuting Attorney's Office requested the assistance of the Hawaii Fugitive Task Force. The investigation led the Task Force from Paia, Maui to Tempe, Arizona and then finally to Bangkok, Thailand.

The Fugitive Task Force reached out to the Department of State, Regional Security Officer in Bangkok Thailand and on December 1, 2013, the Regional Security Officer and a Thailand Immigration Authority located and arrested Strike at a residence in Pattaya, Thailand. Strike had been hiding and residing in Pattaya for the past 21 months. On December 12, 2013, Strike was extradited back to Hawaii and is being held at the Maui Police Department cellblock awaiting his initial appearance hearing. He is being held without bail.
